Introduction to the Faculty of Natural Resources

The Faculty of Natural Resources at the University of Kurdistan was established in 1991, initially as a joint faculty with the Faculty of Agriculture. In 2007, it became an independent academic entity. The faculty's activities are centered on education and research across various fields related to the conservation, protection, restoration, and management of renewable natural resources, including forests, rangelands, water resources, watersheds, soil, climate, the environment, biodiversity, and fisheries.

Today, the Faculty stands as one of the pioneering comprehensive educational institutions for natural resources in the northwestern, western, and southwestern regions of Iran. It relies on its young and motivated faculty members and employs modern teaching methods and technologies to train a committed and skilled workforce capable of addressing natural resource challenges at local, national, and international levels.

The Faculty comprises six academic departments: Forestry, Rangeland and Watershed Management, Climatology, Fisheries, Environmental Science, and Geomorphology. Its academic and research activities are carried out by 40 full-time faculty members, over 20 adjunct faculty members, and 12 administrative and laboratory staff. Currently, the Faculty offers 7 undergraduate majors, 15 master's specializations, and 3 Ph.D. programs, admitting both Iranian and international students. The faculty's development plan includes the addition of 3 new Ph.D. programs.

The Faculty building, with an area of 4,825 square meters, is located on the main campus of the University of Kurdistan and includes 5 classrooms, 26 laboratories and workshops, and a computer lab. The current student body consists of 526 undergraduate students, 265 master's students, 18 Ph.D. candidates, and 18 international students.

Through bilateral cooperation agreements with reputable international universities, students have the opportunity to participate in short-term educational programs, such as student exchanges and summer schools, in accordance with relevant regulations. The Faculty of Natural Resources is committed to meeting the diverse needs of society by conducting fundamental and applied research to advance the frontiers of knowledge and by providing consulting services for both national and international students.
